NNCC President, Lori Neal, Goes to Texas
NNCC President, Lori Neal, had the pleasure of taking a trip to Texas during Nephrology Nurses Week to present two of NNCC’s awards.
NNCC President Delivers Quality Improvement Award
On Monday, September 11, 2023, Lori visited Tanya Scott, MSN, RN, CNN, and her team at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center in Texas City, Texas to present one of NNCC’s Quality Improvement Awards. NNCC’s Nephrology Nursing Quality Improvement Award is awarded annually. Quality Improvement is the

foundation of improving care delivery and patient outcomes. Nurses, Advance Practice Practitioners, and Technicians are essential stakeholders in improving the process. NNCC believes that applying quality improvement strategies to the care of nephrology patients ultimately leads to safer and better outcomes.
Tanya Scott and her team created a quality improvement initiative titled: Decreasing Supply Related Disruptions to Improve Nephrology Nurses Workflow in an Acute Care Setting.
THE PROJECT OUTCOME: Project baseline data showed 236 disruptions (an average of 4 disruptions per day), estimating 8176 wasted nursing hours per year, costing approximately $801,248. Post-project data showed 26 disruptions (an average of 0.22 disruptions per day), estimating 447 wasted nursing hours per year, costing roughly $43,766. Results of the project showed a 94.5% decrease in supply-related disruptions and nursing hours wastage equaling approximately $757,482 in cost savings per year.

Lori had a great time meeting Tanya and her team. “It was my great pleasure to be able to present them with the Nephrology Nursing Quality Improvement Award and check for $1000.” Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center enjoyed some time celebrating Nephrology Nurses Week during Lori’s visit.
