CCHT and CCHT-As - Important Information about Recertification

Tuesday, August 22nd, 2017

There are thousands of technicians, like you, due to recertify their CCHT or CCHT-A credential each month over the next 2 years. NNCC is preparing for this influx and would like to help you to prepare as well. Because you are required to maintain a current certification status to continue working as a dialysis technician, there are some important things to remember:

  • Applications will take up to 8 weeks from date received to be reviewed for recertification by continuing education. NNCC recommends sending your application in at least 3 months in advance of your certification expiration date to be sure you are recertified on time.
    • Recertification by examination can take up to 4 weeks from date received to be approved for testing and issued a permit.
  • You are required to have worked a minimum of 3000 hours as a dialysis technician during your certification period to be eligible for recertification.
    • If you did not meet the minimum work requirement, you are not eligible for recertification, but may be eligible for certification by applying to take the exam again. Please refer to the initial CCHT certification examination application.
  • Recertification by continuing education requires 30 hours of nephrology continuing education credits within the scope of practice of a dialysis technician earned during your 3-year certification period. Note: If you hold the CCHT-A credential, your requirement is 40 hours of CE credits within the scope of practice of a dialysis technician earned during your 3-year certification period.
    • NNCC cannot accept continuing education that is not within your scope of practice – please be sure the programs completed meet this requirement.
    • NNCC would be happy to help you find continuing education that meets your needs.
    • No continuing education should be reported until the contact hours have been awarded. Please review NNCCs Suspension/Denial/Revocation Policy. It is very important to report only continuing education that was completed and contact hours were awarded during your certification period. Misreporting, providing false information, or altering documentation will cause permanent denial of certification. Information provided with your application will be verified.
