“Nurses are expected to become certified and they do,” Currier said. “The value of specialty certification is modeled from the nurse leaders and from the nephrologists who celebrate every successful certificant.” The award, launched by NNCC in 2014, spotlights organizations that demonstrate the value of nephrology nursing certification to promote safety and improve quality patient care. During the award ceremony held on June 16 at the hospital, Theresa Mottes, NNCC president-elect, presented the team with a plaque and $500 gift card. The facility will also be recognized for their achievement on the NNCC Website and its name will be displayed at every professional meeting where NNCC exhibits throughout 2017. To be eligible for the award, an organization must provide patient care to individuals with kidney disease and employ certified nurses and technicians. Such facilities include but are not limited to free-standing outpatient dialysis units, hospitals, and ambulatory care clinics. Units or divisions of larger organizations are also eligible. Complete information is available on the NNCC Website in the "Awards" section.
